Weather Cooperates For Spectacular Solar Eclipse

The weather was one thing local planning teams couldn't control, but the rain held off and the clouds were sparse enough to treat the area to a dramatic total solar eclipse Monday, April 8.

Leading up to Monday, the National Weather Service was forecasting less than a 20% chance that clouds would scatter enough for optimal eclipse viewing in the area, but forecasters reminded hopeful eclipse watchers that it is difficult to predict cloud cover in any specific location. Dense clouds in our area Monday morning began to clear some before noon, and views of the sun were unobstructed for a good portion of the afternoon's eclipse.

Activities planned by the Eclipseboro team around the city were well attended by both visitors and locals, and vendors in downtown Hillsboro stayed busy throughout the weekend on the courthouse square.
